A 13-year-old boy from Maumelle, Ark., spent Father's Day with a catfish barb stuck in his neck.

According to KATV, Aiden Menchaca was on a family fishing trip when he was struck with a catfish barb that lodged itself near the main artery in his neck.

The frightening incident occurred when Aiden was standing near his mother, Melissa, who held a catfish in her hand.

"I wanted to give him a kiss and the fish flopped around and it just smacked him on the neck," she said.

"I thought I was going to die," Aiden said. "I didn't hurt until I realized it was in my neck. When it got stuck, I screamed like a girl as loud as I can."

The family decided not to try to pull the barb out of Aiden's neck, once they realized how close it was to a main artery.

"I was going to pull it out and then I saw it was in this artery," Melissa said. "It was like bulging out."

Paramedics who arrived at the scene reportedly waiting 30 minutes for the catfish to stop moving, when they cut its fin and airlifted Aiden to a nearby hospital.

Though the barb was centimeters away from his artery, doctors were able to pull it out successfully.
