TSA agent allegedly tells teen to 'cover herself'

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent at Los Angeles International Airport allegedly told a teenage girl to "cover" herself before she boarded her flight.

The girl's father is BoingBoing.com editor Mark Frauenfelder who posted about the incident Sunday evening. Frauenfelder says the TSA agent "humiliated and shamed my 15-year-old daughter."

He says his daughter, who was with other high school students on a college tour, described the incident to him via text message.

"She was at the station where the TSA checks IDs," Frauenfelder wrote. "She said the officer was 'glaring' at her and mumbling. She said, 'Excuse me?' and he said, 'You're only 15, COVER YOURSELF!' in a hostile tone. She said she was shaken up by his abusive manner."

Though he said it "shouldn't matter" what she was wearing, Frauenfelder included a photo of his daughter's outfit that day -- long pants and a tank top that was just shy of reaching them, with a plaid flannel overshirt. An outfit much like like hundreds of other passengers on any given day.

"It doesn't matter what she was wearing, though, because it's none of his business to tell girls what they should or should not wear. His creepy thoughts are his own problem, and he shouldn't use his position of authority as an excuse to humiliate a girl and blame her for his sick attitude."

Frauenfelder said he and his wife met with TSA at the airport, and says they are opening an investigation. Frauenfelder said Officer Murphy of the TSA was "apologetic, concerned, and professional."
