Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Oregon found themselves "presented with a unique rescue opportunity" when a deer was found stranded on the ice covering a frozen lake. The Mist-Birkenfeld Rural Fire Protection District said on social media that teams brought the district's Animal Rescue Trailer to Fishhawk Lake after the deer was seen stranded this week. Advertisement Firefighters were joined by personnel from the Scappoose Fire District, Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District, Elsie-Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District and Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District. A video of the rescue shows firefighters carefully dragging a rescue raft across the ice to reach the deer, which was unable to stand on the slippery surface. The deer was successfully brought back to shore, where it was able to find its footing and return to the wild.
