Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A South Carolina man stopped to buy some snacks for a football game and bought a Powerball ticket that earned him a $1 million prize.

The Lowcountry man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he stopped at the Publix store on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant to buy snacks for a football game he planned to watch on TV.

While at the store, he bought a ticket for the Oct. 5 Powerball drawing.

He later learned his ticket had matched the first five numbers from the drawing, 2-12-46-52-65.

"It was crazy and wild," he said.

The ticket earned the man a $1 million prize, which he said he will save as a nest egg.
