Deer rescued after falling through ice into Michigan bay

Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A pair of Michigan brothers came to the aid of a deer that fell through the ice covering an Upper Peninsula bay -- and then rescued it a second time moments later.

A video posted to Facebook by the Island View Resort shows brothers Jeff and Greg Lipple coming to the rescue of the doe stranded in the frigid waters of the Cedarville Bay.

Greg Lipple used a kayak to corral the deer to a spot where Jeff was able to get a rope around the animal and pull it out of the water.

The deer started running toward shore, but ended up falling through the ice a second time.

The brothers were again able to rope the doe, and this time it was able to make it to shore.

Jeff Lipple shared a warning for others in the Facebook post.

"Going out onto thin and dangerous ice is not recommended," he wrote. "We meticulously checked the ice on the way in and out, we were wearing ice gear that floats, had ice picks, a ladder, rope, jet sleds and somebody watching and assisting from shore. Always have an emergency plan and never go alone without letting someone know where you're going and when you'll be back."
