Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A crash involving a tanker truck caused a Maine highway to become covered in foul-smelling liquid waste from a landfill. The Maine State Police said the tanker truck went off the road after a crash involving a truck hauling a traffic director trailer in a construction zone in the northbound lanes of Interstate 295, at mile 49 in Gardener. Advertisement The crash caused the tanker to spill about 9,000 gallons of what's known as "dirty water" -- waste water from a landfill. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was summoned to help clean up the hazardous materials. The tanker driver was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle and failing to yield to a highway maintenance vehicle.
