Lost dog found more than 400 miles from home after 3 weeks

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A pug named Bruno is back with his family in California after turning up more than 400 miles from home at a shelter in Oregon.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon in Bend said the pug was brought in recently and scanned for a microchip, which identified him as Bruno, a 6-year-old dog reported missing in Sacramento, Calif.

Bruno's owner, identified as Lorenzo, said his family left Bruno with a dog-sitter on Nov. 8, and the canine ended up escaping from the back yard.

The furry fugitive turned up three weeks later at an AM/PM gas station in southern Bend. Bruno's whereabouts for those three weeks, and how he managed to travel more than 400 miles, remain a mystery.

Lorenzo was reunited with Bruno at the shelter on Friday.

"It will be a surprise to his kids who do not know the dog has been found safe," the shelter said on social media.
