National Parchment Day promotes use of parchment paper in cooking

June 29 (UPI) -- National Parchment Day, celebrated annually on the last Wednesday in June, was founded in 2016 to encourage cooking with compostable and recyclable parchment paper.

The holiday was founded in 2016 by cooking supply company PaperChef to promote the use of parchment paper in cooking as an alternative to disposable products that end up in landfills.

Parchment paper is a cellulose-based paper treated or coated to create a non-stick surface for cooking in ovens and on grills. Used parchment paper is recyclable and can be used for composting.

Other holidays and observances for June 29, 2022, include Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Hug Holiday, National Almond Buttercrunch Day, National Camera Day and Waffle Iron Day.
