June 8 (UPI) -- National Upsy Daisy Day, an annual June 8 holiday encouraging celebrants to greet the day with a positive outlook, was founded by a Colorado woman in 2003.

The holiday was founded in 2003 by Stephanie West Allen of Denver. Allen said she wanted a day to "remind people to get up gloriously, gratefully and gleefully each morning."

The holiday is one of five Allen created and submitted to Chase's Calendar of Events, an annual reference volume that documents more than 12,500 holidays and observances around the world.

"It's really fun to have a holiday," Allen told the Gainesville Sun in 2014.

Other holidays and observances for June 8, 2022, include Best Friends Day, Betty Picnic Day, International Day of Action for Elephants in Zoos, Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day, Name Your Poison Day, National Caribbean American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, World Brain Tumor Day and World Oceans Day.
