Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man said the desire to buy a cheeseburger for a coworker led to his winning a $1 million lottery jackpot.

Kevin Poole, of Franklinville, told North Carolina Education Lottery officials that his journey to winning $1 million began when a coworker made a kind gesture.

"The electrician I work with bought me lunch yesterday," Poole said when he claimed his prize Wednesday. "I told him, 'Since you bought mine yesterday, I'll buy yours today.'"

Poole took the other man to Don Lee's Grocery And Grill in Willow Spring. While waiting for his food, Poole bought a $10,000,000 Colossal Cash scratch-off ticket.

"They got really good cheeseburgers," he said. "After I finished eating my cheeseburger and onion rings, I scratched it."

Poole went to Raleigh in the afternoon to claim his $1 million prize.

"I'm overexcited now," the winner said. "I'm building a house, and I'd like to buy more land. I want to build a motocross track out back for my sons to ride on."
