July 13 (UPI) -- A Maryland man who won $100 from a scratch-off lottery ticket decided to reinvest some of his winnings into another ticket that earned him $50,000.

Wilford Brown, 62, of Calvert County, told Maryland Lottery officials he has only been playing lottery games since last year, and he won $5,000 from a Pick 4 drawing shortly after he started.

Brown said he got lucky again this month when a $20 scratch-off ticket earned him a $100 prize. The player said he decided to test his latest bout of luck and spent some of his winnings on a $5 Crossword scratch-off ticket.

The ticket turned out to be a $50,000 winner.

Brown said he will continue working as a painter and plans to eventually share his lottery winnings with his grandchildren.
