June 8 (UPI) -- A South Carolina man who found an unscratched lottery ticket in his car discovered he had unknowingly been driving around with a $500,000 winner.
The player told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he bought a $500,000 Extreme ticket from the Stop-A-Minit store in Greenville, but he forgot the ticket in his car for a week before he rediscovered it.
The man said he was shocked to scratch off a $500,000 prize.
"It's surreal," he said. "That's the only way I know how to describe it."
The forgetful winner said he decided not to take any chances with the winning ticket.
"I didn't hesitate," he said. "I drove straight to Columbia to cash it in."
The Stop-A-Minit store was awarded a $5,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
