Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man said he at first misread a winning lottery ticket and thought he had only won $1,000, but it turned out he actually won $150,000.

"My heart just dropped," Aweis Mohamed of Greensboro, N.C., told Fox8 on Friday.

Mohamed, who works as a manufacturing technician, bought three tickets after work at his local Penny Saver outlet, and the first two were duds.

"I scanned the one I won, and it said take it to the lottery headquarters," Mohamed said. "And when I took it, I thought I won $1,000 and the lady said I won $150,000 and that I had to come to Raleigh."

After taxes, Mohamed pocketed $110,864. He plans to use the winnings to help pay down his mortgage, he said.

"I had to see it to believe it," Mohamed said. "I told myself to stay positive and stay humble, and if it's your time, it's your time."
