Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania hockey team's Teddy Bear Toss event set a new record when fans threw 45,650 stuffed animal toys onto the ice.

The Hershey Bears professional hockey team said the Teddy Bear Toss, which occurred following the Bears' first goal eight minutes into Sunday's game, resulted in 45,650 toys being tossed onto the ice, 10,000 more than during the same event last year.

Team officials said the total set a new record for teams hosting Teddy Bear Tosses.

The game was delayed by 40 minutes while the teddy bears and other toys were cleared from the ice.

The Bears said the toys will be distributed among 40 charities and a club seat holder pledged to donate $1 for each donated toy to the Children's Miracle Network.
