Woman reunited with lost ring more than 50 years later

Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A Texas woman was reunited with her Texas A&M University ring more than 50 years after she lost it in Colorado.

Judy Lavois said she and her husband, who gave her the sweetheart ring, were playing in the snow in Colorado five decades ago when the ring came off her finger.

"I was pregnant with my second child and my husband gave it to me so I would have a boy," Lavois told KTRK-TV. "And I did. I had a boy for him."

Lavois said she had long since given up hope of seeing the ring again when she was contacted by a man named Jerry.

Jerry told Lavois that a family member had found the ring while vacationing in Colorado and he was able to track her down online.

"He's an Aggie. He found me and brought it to me from San Antonio," Lavois said.

Lavois said she met Jerry for lunch and was reunited with the ring.

"I'm going to wear it on a finger that will not fall off," Lavois said.

A New Jersey woman who lost her diamond wedding ring when it fell down the toilet while she was cleaning the bathroom nine years ago had a similar happy reunion when a public works employee found it while doing maintenance on a nearby sewer line.

Paula Stanton, 60, said Public Works Department Crew Chief Ted Gogol knew she was the person to contact because she had asked him two years earlier to keep an eye out for the long-lost jewelry.
