Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Police in California said they wrangled a goat that successfully crossed a busy highway and ran loose through city streets.

The California Highway Patrol's Oakland office said the goat was spotted just after noon Monday running on a ramp to Interstate 880 and made its way to the highway median.

The goat crossed all southbound lanes of I-880 and made its way to the Jingletown neighborhood.

Troopers said the goat wandered through a store and managed to give its pursuers the slip until Officer Herman Baza was able to grab it by the horns just before 2 p.m.

"I've caught dogs in the freeway before -- but this is a first for sure," Baza told KTVU-TV.
