Team's Alka-Seltzer rocket breaks Guinness World Record

Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A team from Brigham Young University broke a Guinness World Record when their Alka-Seltzer powered rocket soared to an altitude of 883 feet.

The BYU High Altitude Team, participating in the Bayer Alka-Rocket Challenge at Florida's Kennedy Space Center, more than doubled the altitude record set by the University of Minnesota team last year.

The challenge calls on teams to build rockets from supplies such as 35 mm film canisters and powered by the chemical reaction of Alka-Seltzer tablets and water.

The competition was created by Bayer, the maker of Alka-Seltzer, as a means of encouraging a new generation of scientists, engineers and innovators.
