The Alachua County Sheriff's Office said it has solved the mystery of the horse found running loose on Interstate 75 last Friday after a series of social media tips. Advertisement Witnesses said the horse had escaped from a trailer on the highway and the driver left after being informed of the equine's escape. Investigators said they determined the 12-year-old horse was being taken to be euthanized because its owners no longer wanted it. A sheriff's office spokesman said authorities are seeking animal abandonment charges against the driver of the vehicle. The horse, now named Highway, is being treated at the Springhill Equine Veterinary Clinic in Ocala for injuries sustained during the daring escape. The clinic said a crowdfunding goal for the horse's car quickly exceeded its goal.
