Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Transit officials in New York are giving commuters a glimpse of the past via rides on a vintage 1932 train brought back into service.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the "Holiday Nostalgia Train," a 1932 r-1 train with rattan seats and ceiling fans, was put into service Sunday in Manhattan and will be in service on Sundays through the end of the year.

The train features advertisements and other decorations from its time in regular use from 1932 until 1977.

"Reminds me of the 1970s, the fun times," rider James Elliot told WPIX-TV. "The lighting, the seats, the whole experience. It's like a living, breathing thing. They don't make me like they used to."
