Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of tree stands.

Stan Kohl, owner of Kohl's Stony Hill Tree Farm in the Danville area, said he submitted evidence of his 1,197 tree stands to Guinness World Records and the organization has now certified the unusual collection as a world record.

Kohl said he started collecting in 2004, when he and some relatives cleared out his great aunt's home after her death.

"We placed everything in piles and had an auctioneer come and sell off everything," Kohl told The Daily Item newspaper.

"There were Christmas tree stands left and since I was in the Christmas tree business, I was pushed by my cousin to take some home. I looked online and saw what vast Christmas tree stands were being produced," he said.

Kohl said his collection now includes a wide range of styles and vintages.

"Some that you wonder how they hold a tree up and other ones are perfect to hold your tree up," Kohl told WNEP-TV.
