Canned goods become art exhibits in New York

Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A New York art museum is hosting a "Canstruction" sculpture contest for teams to create structures from canned goods that will later be donated.

The 26th annual Canstruction New York event at Brookfield Place features 30 sculptures made from stacked canned foods by teams including artists, architects, engineers, contractors and students.

The sculptures will be disassembled when the exhibition ends Nov. 15 and the materials will be donated to local food banks.

This year's entries include sculptures of Bugs Bunny, a giant crab, a fox and a squirrel.

Awards will be given for Best Original Design, Structural Ingenuity, Best Meal, Most Cans, Cheri C. Melillo Award, Best Use of Labels, Honorable Mention and People's Choice. The People's Choice award will be given based on an online vote.

Visitors to the free exhibit are being asked to bring more canned goods to be donated.
