By Ben Hooper

Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A lone worker who single-handedly cleared a Texas highway drain, allowing flood waters to subside, is going viral as the "highway hero."

Northbound Highway 288 toward downtown Houston flooded amid heavy rainfall Wednesday evening during the commuting hours, causing traffic backups.

A KTRK-TV camera was rolling when a lone worker in reflective gear cleared a drain on the road, allowing the water to subside and cars to once again pass by the formerly flooded area.

The lone worker, who declined to give his identity before leaving in a white work truck, was dubbed the "highway hero" online as the footage went viral.
