Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Animal experts in Nebraska said a deer that smashed several windows at an Omaha strip mall was likely trying to fight its own reflection.

The deer was caught on video Tuesday morning running the length of the strip mall and attacking several windows, completely shattering some.

The deer was seen breaking windows at stores including Beauty First and Tuesday Morning.

Kelli Brown of the Omaha Humane Society said the deer apparently confused its reflection in the windows for a rival male.

"This is the time of year we have what is called a rut, and that's when a lot of the males are seeking mates and that's when they become very competitive with each other. They will see that reflection and just go to town on it," Brown told WOWT-TV.

The deer at one point got its antler caught between the double doors at a store, but was able to free itself.

Animal control officers said they responded to the scene, but the deer was already gone when they arrived.

Brown said that despite some blood and hair left behind at the scene, the deer was likely not seriously injured.

"Deer are very resilient animals. As long as they don't have anything major, like a broken jaw, we're usually just able to let them go," Brown said.

A deer caused a stir earlier this week in Clinton Township, Mich., when it crashed through the glass door of an office building. The confused buck ran wild through the building before being tranquilized and safely relocated outside.
