Subway worker warned for throwing bread to deer

Oct. 30 (UPI) -- An employee at a Subway sandwich shop in Colorado was warned by state wildlife officials after being caught on camera feeding bread to deer.

Witness Dustin Schaefer captured video of the scene at a Georgetown Subway, which is also a gas station, when he arrived to find an employee throwing loaves of bread to deer in the parking lot.

"When we pulled up it looked like a petting zoo. There were probably 10 deer just hanging out," Schaefer told KDVR-TV.

"When I pulled my camera out to get a picture, a foot long hoagie went flying by me and he was chucking them Peyton Manning style," Schaefer said.

Feeding deer or other big game animals is illegal in Colorado and can carry a fine of $50.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said an officer talked to the employee and warned him against feeding deer again in the future.

"It's not something we want to see. It's not good for the animal. Deer can also get very aggressive. It's their natural instinct because they have a lot of testosterone running through them right now and they're kind of revved up," Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Jason Clay said.
