Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Employees at a Hawaii animal hospital said they received an influx of mysterious phone calls that turned out to be the work of a mischievous gecko.
Claire Simeone, director of the Ke Kai Ola Marine Mammal Center, said she first became aware of the issue when she received nine phone calls in 15 minutes.
Simeone said she quickly drove to the hospital, where the calls originated, to see if there was an emergency.
She arrived to find other hospital employees had also received the mysterious calls.
Simeone said she contacted Hawaiian Telecom, which confirmed there had been "a bazillion calls" originating from the hospital, but could not explain them.
The hospital director eventually was able to snap a photo of the culprit -- a gecko climbing on a phone was making calls "with his tiny gecko feet."
Simeone said the gecko was relocated outside, safely away from the hospital's phones.
