Rattlesnake spotted slithering under New Jersey woman's car

Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Volunteer snake handlers responded to a New Jersey woman's home to remove an unusual guest that slithered under her car -- a venomous rattlesnake.

The Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, which has staff members that volunteer for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Venomous Snake Response Team, said in a Facebook post that the volunteers responded recently to a Manchester Township home.

The resident had reported to state officials that she spotted a timber rattlesnake slithering underneath her car while it was parked in her driveway.

The post said the homeowner tracked the snake as it slithered around her property and the volunteers arrived when it was only about a foot away from escaping under her garden shed.

"If he had got under the shed it would have made the job a lot harder if not impossible to retrieve him," the Facebook post said.

The post included video of the snake's safe capture.

The refuge said the rattlesnake, an endangered species in New Jersey, was relocated away from homes.
