Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A $30,000 ring that was accidentally thrown out at a San Diego family's home was located at a landfill in a matter of only four minutes.

The City of San Diego said in a Facebook post that the ring accidentally ended up in the trash while the owner and her family were cleaning their home.

The family realized the ring had been thrown out just after the garbage truck left their block and they contacted city officials for help.

San Diego Environmental Services workers used GPS to identify which truck to check at the Miramar Landfill, and the family and sanitation workers were able to find the ring in a matter of minutes.

"Sometimes it takes three, four hours for them to find it. Sometimes they don't find it at all, so to have something ... you know, a $30,000 ring in four minutes, that was pretty good," city spokesman Jose Ysea told KGTV.
