June 28 (UPI) -- Layrd Mahler of Arizona was shocked to discover a snake appear on his windshield as he was driving in Phoenix.

"Surprised, but at the same time I was driving, so there was no way I was going to panic because I didn't want to get in an accident," he said to Fox 10 of his reaction to seeing the snake.

Mahler quickly began filming the incident and tried using his windshield wipers to dispose of the snake, however, the unwanted guest then simply wrapped itself around the wipers before retreating back under the hood.

It was then that Mahler pulled over and attempted to locate the snake to no avail.

"Now I'm debating 'do I get back in the car?" Mahler said. "I don't know if it's going to go through the vent system because they can do that. Or, do I just man up and drive home? So that's what I did."

Mahler made it home and called animal control in order to help locate the snake, who was never found.

"I've basically given myself a pep talk every day to say, 'Ok, be prepared if something pops out,"' Mahler said. "That's the best I can do I think."

Recently, a family in Arizona discovered a large rattlesnake and its babies living inside of a pool noodle.
