Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe June 21 (UPI) -- Authorities in Connecticut partially disassembled a car engine to rescue four baby raccoons hiding under the hood of the vehicle. The Guilford Police Animal Shelter said in a Facebook post that Guilford Police Officer Fitzpatrick and Animal Control officer Borrelli responded to a call recently to rescue what was initially thought to be three baby raccoons, but was soon found to be six. Advertisement The post said four of the raccoons climbed into the engine compartment of a resident's car to hide, leading police and animal control to solicit help from Public Works to partially disassemble the engine. "The car was jacked up, and parts of the engine removed to reach the little ones from under the car, gently taking them back out the way that they had climbed up," the Facebook post said. The shelter said rescuers were unable to find the kits' mother. They were taken to a wildlife rehabilitator who will care of them until they are old enough to survive on their own.
