June 12 (UPI) -- Firefighters in California said a car that dangled precariously from the fourth floor of a parking structure was safely hoisted back to the structure.
The Santa Monica Fire Department said no one was injured when the car crashed through a gate and into the cables guarding the ledge of the 4th Street parking structure about 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Witnesses said the driver, a woman who appeared to be in her 60s, was helped out of the vehicle by a bystander, a tourist from France. She was not injured.
The driver told authorities she accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake while driving on the structure.
The silver Honda sedan was seen dangling from the side of the building for a time with the driver's door open.
Firefighters said the vehicle was safely hoisted back onto the structure by noon on Monday.
Incident Update: Vehicle has been safely removed. No injuries reported. @SantaMonicaPD are securing the area. 4th street will remain closed for approx. 1 hour. pic.twitter.com/dMFv8z6Cjt
