Alligator delays plane's landing with runway stroll

June 11 (UPI) -- An alligator in Florida briefly delayed a flight on Monday after it wandered onto the runway while the plane was landing.

Passenger Anthony Velardi told WESH he captured video of the alligator walking across the plane's path as it landed at Orlando International Airport after the pilot delivered an unusual message on the plane's overhead speaker.

"Believe it or not there is a gator on the runway and we are waiting for it to cross," the pilot said.

Velardi told WSVN the pilot stopped taxiing the plane and waited for the alligator to continue to make its way across the runway.

The gator eventually found its way into a nearby pond and the plane continued to the gate with a short delay.
