June 7 (UPI) -- A shocked California fisherman captured video of an unusual sight on a Sierra Nevada foothills lake -- a mountain lion swimming near his boat.

James Horton of Fresno said he was fishing in his boat Saturday morning on Lake Mcclure, near Snelling in Mariposa County, when he spotted the cougar swimming nearby about 5:30 a.m.

"Check this out. Mountain lion swimming across the lake," Horton says in the video. "Woo! He's mad."

The fisherman quips the "big boy" is a "fish out of water."

"Who says cats don't like water?" Horton wrote on Facebook.

The Merced Irrigation District is warning residents of mountain lion sightings in the area, advising people to avoid being alone near the lake around dawn, dusk and at night.
