June 6 (UPI) -- Firefighters in England said they rescued a man who became stuck up a tree while trying to chase down an escaped parrot.

Michael Novell, a crew manager at the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Wokingham Road fire station, said his crew responded last week on a report of a man and a parrot stuck up a tree in Earley.

"We had an angry parrot that flew from its cage, out of the window and into a tree," Novell told Get Reading.

"The owner gave chase and we had to get them both down," he said. "We managed to get the man down, but unfortunately the parrot made a bid for freedom and succeeded."

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said it took about 35 minutes to rescue the man using a ladder.

The large green parrot remained on the loose.

A woman who lives in the same area posted photos to a local lost and found pets group on Facebook showing a green parrot that she said landed on her head and appeared to be injured. It was unclear whether it was the same bird.
