June 5 (UPI) -- A black bear that prompted a lock-down at a Florida school before wandering to an apartment complex was relocated using waffles and syrup.

The bear, which prompted a lock-down Monday morning when it was spotted near Grace Community School in Fort Myers, was cornered by police and wildlife officers in the late morning at the nearby Park Place apartment complex.

Witnesses said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers used waffles and syrup to lure the bruin into a cage.

"They got a box of waffles in this container, and they stashed the waffles inside the container and threw it into the cage, and lured him into the cage like that," Park Place resident Brittani Morgan told WZVN-TV.

The yearling bear, which weighs about 170 pounds, was released deep in the Collier County woods, officials said.
