May 24 (UPI) -- Sheriff's deputies and wildlife trappers responded to a Florida school where an alligator was spotted only 100 feet from the drop-off point.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the assistant principal at BridgePrep Academy in Riverview called authorities Wednesday morning to report an alligator in the school's retention pond, near where kids are dropped off in the morning.

Deputies responded and contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which sent licensed trappers out to capture the reptile.

The alligator, a 7-foot female that was found to be pregnant, was "relocated to a safer waterway," the sheriff's office said.
