May 24 (UPI) -- A Florida couple having their morning coffee looked into their back yard and noticed something highly unusual -- a 300-pound alligator swimming in their pool.

Connie and Frank Shaffery said they were drinking coffee Wednesday morning at their Sarasota home when they spotted the 9-foot gator swimming laps in the pool.

"We have a pond somewhat nearby, but it's strange that this gator ended up in our pool," Frank Shaffery told WWSB-TV.

The couple contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which dispatched trapper Kevin Hibler to the scene.

Suzanne Field Crandall, who was visiting a neighbor of the Shafferys on Wednesday morning, posted video to Facebook showing Hibler pulling the gator from the water and onto some nearby grass, where he taped its mouth shut for a safe capture.

Connie Shafferty said the alligator removal took about 20 minutes.

Hibler estimated the alligator was about 15-20 years old.
