May 23 (UPI) -- A family traveling on a Nebraska highway captured video of a cat surfing on the roof of a van, with the vehicle's driver apparently unaware.
Ronda Rankin posted a video to Facebook showing the cat her family spotted on top of a van while they were traveling 60 mph on Interstate 480 in Omaha about 8:30 p.m. Friday.
"My daughter says, 'There's a cat on that van,' and I was like, 'Oh no, that's a raccoon,'" Rankin told KETV. "When my husband pulls up closer, I'm like, 'Oh my God, no, that's a cat.'"
The video shows Rankin's husband honk the horn to get the other driver's attention.
"I said, 'There's a cat on your roof,' and I keep saying, 'A cat on your roof.' Then, she looks at me and she's like, 'Oh my God.' She looks startled, and so immediately, they slow down," Rankin said.
She said her family does not know what happened after the van slowed down, but they are hoping it was able to stop and allow the feline to safely dismount.
The Nebraska Humane Society said it is trying to track down the van's owners to find out what happened to the cat.
"I mean how that cat held on at high speeds like that is amazing," NHS spokesman Mark Langan said. "And I want to know what happened to the cat, people in Omaha want to know what happened to the cat, let's find out what happened to this poor cat."
