Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe May 21 (UPI) -- A New Jersey police officer performed an emergency C-section to save a fawn after its mother was killed by a car. Washington Township Animal Control Officer Robert Lagonera said in a Facebook post that he responded to a report of a pregnant doe that had been struck by a car about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Advertisement Lagonera arrived to find Washington Township Police Officer Jim Vernon had arrived on the scene and "performed an emergency C-section on the deceased doe" to rescue one of the two premature fawns from inside the deceased deer's womb. Lagonera said he took the fawn home to warm and dry the newborn "while rubbing its chest to help the underdeveloped lungs work." The animal control officer said he was soon dispatched on another call for a loose horse and he again ended up working with Vernon to get the wandering equine home. "Now I'm running around getting the premature fawn the care it needs," Lagonera wrote.
