May 14 (UPI) -- A South Carolina couple said they woke Sunday morning to the sounds of an uninvited front porch visitor -- an alligator scratching at the door.

Louise Monteith said her husband, Charles, went to investigate about 5 a.m. Monday when he awoke to sounds of scratching and clanking on the front porch of their North Charleston home.

She told The Post and Courier that he came back with a frantic warning: "There's an alligator on our front porch!"

The couple phoned police and officers responded to the home to wait for the arrival of reptile specialists from Gator Getters.

Monteith posted a video to YouTube showing the 7-foot gator being wrangled by trappers.

"Woke up to clanging and banging on our front porch at 4:45 this morning. This bad boy was NOT happy. Thanks to Gator Getters for handling their business," she wrote.

Monteith said the situation could have been much worse.

"I'm thankful my husband heard the clanging and banging because things could've ended differently had one of our kids stepped outside to go to school," she said.

She said the gator removal took about two hours. The homeowner said it was the first time an alligator has been spotted on her property.
