May 3 (UPI) -- Police in Indiana are warning anyone who picked up $20 bills that fell from the back of an armored truck on the freeway not to keep the cash.

The Indiana State Police said the Brinks truck's doors opened while traveling near the Holt Road exit of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis, causing hundreds of $20 bills to fly out onto the roadway.

Witness Jazmyne Cooper captured video of bystanders picking up the cash while police officers attempted to stop anyone from leaving with the money.

ISP spokesman Sgt. John Perrine warned that anyone found to have picked up and kept cash that fell from the truck could face charges if they don't turn the money over to investigators.

"Anyone who picked up money can be charged with theft," he tweeted. "If you have money from the incident to return, contact the Indiana State Police."

Police said there will be increased patrols in the area where the money fell from the truck.

"People know right from wrong and anyone we track down who kept a dollar of this money will be arrested for theft," ISP Sgt. Bill Dalton said. "The time to do the right thing and call us to turn in the money is now, because once we knock on your door, you won't be able to avoid being arrested."
