March 5 (UPI) -- Authorities responded to a Florida neighborhood where a small dog had fallen into a gopher tortoise's burrow and found itself trapped.

Charlotte County Animal Control said in a Facebook post that a Rotonda resident contacted authorities on Wednesday to report his Boston terrier was trapped in a gopher tortoise burrow.

Animal Control Officer Enriquez responded to the scene and called in some backup from Englewood Fire Dept. Station 74 and a Charlotte County Sheriff's Office deputy.

The rescuers were able to extract the dog, which has fallen about 8-10 feet into the tortoise's tunnel.

The terrier, Harry, was reunited with his owner and did not suffer any injuries from his ordeal. The tortoise that owned the burrow was also uninjured in the encounter with its unexpected guest.
