March 5 (UPI) -- An Australian man's dashboard camera captured the moment another driver's high beams nearly caused him to collide with a kangaroo in the road.

Peter Imbesi, who posted the dash cam footage to YouTube, said he was driving through Dundowran, Queensland, about 10 p.m. Thursday when a driver traveling in the opposite direction failed to switch off their high beam headlights as he approached.

The video shows the bright lights obscuring a kangaroo in the middle of the road until the moment Imbesi narrowly misses hitting the marsupial.

"If I had been a foot over to the right, I would have hit the roo," Imbesi told the Fraser Coast Chronicle.

Imbesi said he hopes his video will serve as a reminder for drivers to switch off their high beams for opposing traffic. He said he frequently encounters vehicles that fail to dim their headlights while he is driving home from work at night.

"It's just hyper-stubbornness, people seem to be completely oblivious to the impact it has on others," Imbesi said.
