Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A safari-goer in an African wildlife preserve captured video of a fleet-footed hyena narrowly escaping after walking into an ambush by several lions.

The video, captured by Louis Le Roux, 61, and posted to YouTube by Kruger Sightings, shows what happened when the hyena approached a watering hole at Gharagab camp inside Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which straddles the border of South Africa and Botswana.

The video shows the hyena walk into an area filled with lionesses attempting to blend into the landscape in the search for prey.

The lionesses spring their trap and run toward the hyena, but the smaller animal proves faster than its pursuers and they end up giving up the chase.

"It was the hyena's lucky day as he managed to escape the great chase of the pride," Le Roux wrote.
