Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Police in Florida shared photos of a bald eagle dubbed "Baldie" after being rescued by an officer and a pair of sheriff's deputies.

Gainesville Police Officer Bobby White, who was dubbed the Basketball Cop online after a viral video showed him playing basketball with some local youngsters, said in a Facebook post that he responded to a report of an injured eagle Monday.

White said he found the eagle about 10 yards into the woods and verified the predator was unable to fly due to an apparent broken wing.

White was soon joined by a pair of Alachua County sheriff's deputies and they were able to capture the bird, which was dubbed "Baldie" in a Facebook post by the Gainesville Police Department.

Baldie was taken to the Eye of the Eagle Wildlife Sanctuary for treatment and rehabilitation.
