Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A group of men who encountered a great white shark while jet skiing off the Australian coast captured video of the moment the predator "took off like a fully-charged Tesla."

Brothers Russ and Adam Quinn said they were visiting a South Coast, New South Wales, beach Thursday with their father, John, when they spotted a NSW Department of Primary Industries shark-spotting helicopter.

The men decided to take their jet skis in for a closer look and ended up in an up-close encounter with an 8-foot great white shark.

"We were surfing in the middle of Five Mile Beach when we saw the DPI Shark chopper circling over an area about 200 meters [656 feet] away, so we went to take a look," Russ Quinn told South Coast Daily.

"Sure enough there was a 2.5-meter white pointer darting around chasing fish," he said. "We've seen a few bronze whalers before but it was epic to see the ocean's primary predator up close."

Quinn, who filmed video of the encounter, said all three men were shocked at the shark's speed.

"The speed of this thing was insane. After a few minutes of sniffing the ocean floor, and without any indication or effort, it took off like a fully-charged Tesla and disappeared into the deep," he said.
