Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Motorists saw a wallaby traveling along the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The marsupial was spotted in lane eight on the northern side of the bridge, resulting in officers from Harbourside and North Shore being called in for assistance, New South Wales Police reported.

7 News Sydney shared video of the wallaby hopping along the bridge and then the Cahill Expressway on Twitter.

The footage, filmed by police officers, features the wallaby moving at a fast pace and avoiding contact with law enforcement. Police drove their cars closely nearby to ensure the wallaby's safety.

Police eventually grabbed the wallaby near the Conservatorium of Music. It was then taken to the Taronga Zoo for assessment.

The zoo shared a photo of the wallaby being treated at the facility, noting it was assessed and recovering.

A second status update on the wallaby by the Taronga Zoo mentioned that the animal was "in a serious but stable condition" and was "awake and recovering slowly."
