Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A group of university students in Mexico used recycled materials to create a can-crushing machine to reduce waste.

The students at Panamerican University in Mexico said they used mostly recycled materials to build the small machine, which manipulates a piece of wood to crush cans one-by-one.

One of the students, Javier Rodrigz Bueno, shared a video of the machine in action on Twitter.

The students said the machine was designed to reduce waste by compressing the discarded cans.
