Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A New York state family returning from vacation said they discovered two tires had been stolen from their vehicle while it was parked at the airport.

Heather Evans said she and her family returned to Rochester Airport after a 10-day Florida vacation and discovered there were two tires missing from the passenger side of their Cadillac Escalade.

The rear end of the vehicle was propped up on a cinderblock, Evans said.

"It doesn't seem plausible that someone would carry a cinderblock in. I think they would have had to have driven in," Evans told WHAM-TV.

She said the airport made her family pay the full $168 price for 10 days of parking and told her there was no video surveillance of the area of the garage where her vehicle was parked.

"I can't believe that in 2018 that whole place is not under surveillance," Evans told WROC-TV. "I mean that parking lot isn't that far away from the airport. Bad things happen. So, I just feel like it should be more secure than it is."

Airport Director Andy Moore said the theft was "an unfortunate situation and a rare occurrence."

Moore said the Evanses would be reimbursed for the cost of parking and the county will allow the family to file a claim for damages.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said patrols are being increased at the airport following the incident.
