Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A Texas police department shared video of an officer's close call when he slipped on some ice and was nearly run over by an out-of-control car.

The Hurst Police Department posted a video to Facebook showing the New Year's Eve incident near a highway exit ramp in the city.

The video shows the officer walking on the icy surface outside of his car and falling on his backside.

A car sliding out of control on the ice appears seconds later and passes within inches of the fallen officer before striking his now-empty patrol car.

"An example of why we highly discourage traveling in the current weather conditions," the Facebook post said. "The roads are extremely dangerous. If you must travel, take caution and be safe. The officer was not seriously injured."
