Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A maintenance worker at a remote Australian hotel used an oven mitt to capture a baby crocodile he found on the property's porch.

The Willare Bridge Roadhouse posted photos to Facebook showing maintenance worker Paul Marshall using the oven glove to hold onto the baby crocodile he found wandering on the veranda on New Year's Day.

Marshall said he was blowing leaves when he spotted the tiny croc near a door that leads to the kitchen.

"I tried to pick him up without a glove on and he was a bit snappy, so I let him go for a bit," Marshall told The West Australian. "I went to the kitchen and found an oven glove and I grabbed him and put him in a bucket."

Marshall, who said the crocodile is the first one he's seen up close, released the critter into the Fitzroy River.
